In The Round

We have developed a new type of session to bring into schools, businesses or organisations; this
session is called “In the Round”; we compose a round (see note below) specially for your group/
organisation, and then teach this to the participants in one session.

Your organisation can then use this round whenever they want to, facilitated by anyone with a little
musical background.

Singing rounds is a wonderful way of creating harmony – both literally and figuratively – and is
a powerful way to transcend boundaries between people, be they racial, linguistic, age, gender,
or whatever. For people who have never sung in harmony before this can be a really powerful
experience as they discover they can join in with something that previously seemed impossible for
them – and make beautiful music with any group of people, regardless of who they are!

Generally speaking, our modern society is bereft of live music – most of us only listen to recorded
music and seldom experience the richness of making music which connects us to our deeper selves.
And singing is the most powerful medium of all – when we use our own voices we truly express
something from deep inside ourselves which is healing and harmonising at the same time.

“In the Round” can easily be combined with a session of Interactive Musical Tubes for larger groups
or with a percussion/drumming workshop for smaller groups.

NOTE: A round is a musical composition in which two or more voices sing exactly the same melody
(and may continue repeating it indefinitely), but with each voice beginning at different times so
that different parts of the melody coincide in the different voices, but nevertheless fit harmoniously
together. It is one of the easiest forms of part singing, as only one line of melody need be learned by
all parts, and is part of a popular musical tradition.
